Ian Choudri resigned as the chief of California's High-Speed Rail Authority on Wednesday, citing "important personal and family priorities," after leading a project that has cost $231 billion without completing any track. Hours later, he was seen purchasing expensive Cohiba Red Dot cigars at a Folsom store while dressed in gym gear. Choudri had previously stated that heading the Authority was one of the most meaningful chapters of his professional life. Police arrested him on suspicion of domestic violence but charges were declined by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Additionally, the rail authority paid out $592,900 for consultants' expenses, including trips to Tiki bars and an "escape room," and a first-class flight upgrade.
