Joshua Kutryk, a Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut, performed his first spacewalk alongside NASA astronaut Anil Menon on October 29, 2026. The six-and-a-half-hour mission began at 7:57 a.m. EDT and was the eighth spacewalk of the year and the 285th since the International Space Station (ISS) assembly started in 1998. Their task was to install solar panels on the station’s port side truss structure, which acts as its structural backbone and supports critical systems like power generation. The mission aims to upgrade the ISS's power capacity from 160 kilowatts to 215 kilowatts by installing two final sets of roll-out solar arrays (IROSAs). This makes Kutryk the fifth Canadian astronaut to perform a spacewalk and the first since David Saint-Jacques in 2019.
