William "Stone" Romberg, a 31-year-old father from Panama City Beach in Florida's Panhandle, drowned while attempting to free a seagull that got tangled in his fishing line on October 23, 2026. He was known for his kindness and dedication to his community as the beach manager at Carillon Beach for La Dolce Vita. Romberg tried to rescue the bird but became entangled himself when the fishing hook and bird stuck to his hand. Strong ocean currents carried him further out to sea, despite his efforts to return to shore. He leaves behind his wife Taylor and their two young daughters, ages one and three.
Over $300,000 has been raised through GoFundMe campaigns set up by friends and family to support the Romberg family during this difficult time. Tributes from community members and colleagues highlight how beloved he was in the local area for his kind heart and willingness to help others.
