On October 24, United Airlines Flight 1681 bound for Newark from Las Vegas was forced to return to Harry Reid International Airport shortly after takeoff due to a potential security threat. A flight attendant noticed a passenger texting about hijacking the plane and alerted the crew, who secured the cockpit and diverted back to Las Vegas. The FAA confirmed that the Boeing 737 carrying 150 passengers and six crew members landed safely at around 11:05 p.m. local time with no injuries reported. Law enforcement met the aircraft upon landing in Las Vegas, and the FAA stated they would investigate the incident.
