The under fire 23-year-old mayor of a Georgia city has been removed from office after he was accused of sexting a teenager.

Jayden Williams was already stripped of several privileges by the city council of Stockbridge following an investigation into his spending of municipal funds.

Williams - who had previously claimed he didn't remember whether he had done this - admitted to trading nude photos with the 18-year-old but defended his actions at a council meeting on Saturday.

Williams' attorney said his client was wrongfully removed and argued that the explicit images were sent before he'd taken office.

The special council vote was held after the city manager's office reported suspicious activity associated with Williams' spending, Mayor Pro Tem Elton Alexander told Atlanta News First.

Williams released a statement later that day, announcing that he will now be taking legal action to ensure the city follows a 'fair, open, and transparent process.
