Amanda Stoker has been sworn in as Queensland's new child safety and family and domestic violence minister following Amanda Camm's resignation due to health concerns and safety fears. Camm stepped down after facing criticism for issues such as children sleeping on the floor of government offices, budget cuts to DFV services, and IT system failures compromising responses to child safety matters. Stoker, a former senator and assistant minister under Scott Morrison, was widely discussed in party circles as the replacement candidate. She arrived at Government House with her family ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
Earlier this year, she deflected aggressive efforts from the Christian lobby demanding she act on abortion laws, a stance that was expected to be rewarded with a cabinet elevation, after Crisafulli banned any bills or debate on abortion laws when he took government.
