The Conservatives' former director of campaigning, Anthony Lee, and his wife, Laura Lee, received suspended prison sentences after admitting to cheating at gambling by placing bets on the date of the 2024 general election using inside information from a private meeting called by then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. At Southwark Crown Court, it was revealed that Anthony Lee used confidential details months before the actual election to place these illegal bets. If their cheating had not been discovered, they would have won more than £23,000. Lee was sentenced to 10 months and two weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, while his wife received a sentence of four months and two weeks, also suspended for a year.
