The first Ebola patients confirmed in Nigeria and Kenya might have crossed paths at Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport on October 3, according to Dr. Wessam Mankoula, head of emergency preparedness and response at the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). Health officials are investigating whether these patients could have been exposed through shared equipment or contact while traveling through the airport. Nigeria is battling its first Ebola case in over a decade; the patient, a 42-year-old Ugandan-born woman living in Abuja who recently returned from Uganda, is receiving treatment and showing signs of improvement. Meanwhile, Kenya has confirmed nine infections, including one death. The Nigerian patient’s husband, a Swiss diplomat based in Nigeria, is also under isolation but without symptoms. Authorities are now focused on tracing the source of exposure for both patients to contain further spread across Africa.
