The avalanche hit Mount Himlung, a 7,126-meter (23,380-foot) peak in north central Nepal, said Mukti Prasad Khanal, the chief government administrator of Manang District where the mountain is located.
Home to eight of the world’s 14 highest peaks, Nepal’s economy relies heavily on mountaineering and trekking tourism.
The foreign climbers had not reached the site at the time of the avalanche.
At least 21 people have died, five are missing and five others have been injured across Nepal after four days of torrential rain triggered floods and landslides in several parts of the country, authorities said on Sunday.
