In a memo sent Friday to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton said his teams “have received intelligence that Iran has substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel.”

Earlier this week, the State Department ordered non-essential U.S. embassy personnel and their families to depart Saudi Arabia.
"When it comes to our staffing at embassies, we constantly evaluate new information about the security environment," a U.S. official told CBS News on Friday.
The official said that the threat of attacks by Houthi forces in Yemen and of “Iranian terror plots targeting US officials” were informing State Department decisions on staffing adjustments for embassies.
The embassies involved are all under what is known as “restricted operations” status that has already reduced the size of their personnel footprints.
