A Bulgarian Air Force fighter jet was also scrambled and escorted the aircraft until it reached Sofia airport, the ministry added.
In a separate incident late last month, the co-pilot aboard a flydubai airline flight headed to Tel Aviv from Dubai attacked the captain and allegedly planned to intentionally crash the plane but was stopped by the captain, passengers and crew.
A spokesperson told the AFP news agency there were 51 passengers and six crew members on board the jet.
"Once the search of the aircraft is complete, the passengers will be rebooked onto alternative flights as quickly as possible," the airline said.
