“Hurricane Simon battered Mexico's west coast on Monday with powerful winds and torrential rain, after several weather systems left at least five people dead and caused widespread damage to property in Pacific coastal communities.”

“"Additional weakening is forecast but Simon is still expected to be a strong hurricane as it passes near the coast of west-central Mexico tonight," the forecaster's advisory said.”

“Meanwhile, brown rainwaters were flooding homes in low-lying areas of the county and forcing sewage into the San Juan River.”

“There is a chance communities may become cut off because of flooded roads, and power cuts are also possible, the forecaster said.”
