Siegmund was born in East Germany in 1990 and moved to Berlin in his early years, where he set up a business selling household air fresheners.
His first move into politics was to join the CDU, but he shifted to the hard right in 2014 by joining the AfD, then in an early phase when it was commonly dismissed as a minor party with neo-Nazi leanings and therefore unelectable as a major political force."
