Clinton, a town about 10 miles northwest of Jackson, Mississippi, experienced a devastating fire at a senior living center on Wednesday evening around 5 p.m., resulting in the deaths of two residents. The blaze forced firefighters to evacuate over 85 residents with staff assistance and rescue an additional 10 to 15 people. Clinton Mayor Will Purdie confirmed during a news conference that two lives were lost, while at least four individuals required hospitalization.
The Brookdale Senior Living facility housed more than 100 residents before the incident. Fire Chief Levius Buckley stated that the building’s sprinkler system was operational but did not prevent the fire from spreading across multiple wings of the center. As of Thursday, all surviving residents were either with family members or relocated to other facilities. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Mayor Purdie praised both firefighters and Brookdale Clinton staff for their efforts in saving lives and credited the community’s strength for responding effectively during such a crisis.
