South Korean officials struggled on Wednesday to free a 3-meter-long female dusky shark, nicknamed Bukangi, which had been trapped for over a month in a canal in Busan. The shark was guided through the narrow waterway using a floating platform and net secured to a pontoon, but by evening it returned to the mouth of the canal instead of swimming out to open sea. Despite numerous attempts, including night patrols by a group of YouTubers who livestreamed its plight, the shark re-entered the canal on Thursday after swimmers led it back to sea with nets; officials had set up a net to prevent its return, but it was unsuccessful. Over 1.6 million visitors have come to see Bukangi since it first appeared in the waterway on September 18.
