In response to severe haze, Malaysian fitness groups are opting for indoor workouts at shopping malls instead of outdoor runs. On Wednesday evening, dozens of runners were seen weaving through corridors at the Atria Shopping Gallery in Petaling Jaya, clocking laps past shops and escalators, a routine that would typically occur on city streets. By Thursday morning, 15 out of 68 air quality monitoring stations across Malaysia reported unhealthy pollution levels; readings reached 163 in Negeri Sembilan, with parts of Kuala Lumpur and neighbouring Selangor remaining above 150 according to the Department of Environment. The haze has disrupted sports activities nationwide, forcing fitness enthusiasts to adapt by using air-conditioned retail corridors as a safer alternative for their workouts.
