On October 12, 2026, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raided the Washington D.C. home of Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar as part of an ongoing criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork, which was reportedly filled out by her late father when she was a child. The raid was executed based on a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice (DOJ). During the raid, federal agents seized 17 items from Omar's home and took multiple personal belongings belonging to her husband, including a camera passed down by his uncle and a Somali phrase book he used to learn the language. Following the raid, Omar stated that she will have to vacate her D.C. apartment due to safety concerns, citing death threats received after becoming the subject of federal investigation.
Those in Donald Trump’s orbit – cabinet officials and rightwing influencers alike – have promoted baseless theories about the Democratic congresswoman, accusing Omar of being in a sham marriage with her brother and fudging details of her immigration paperwork.
