Dennis Naroldol, a 60-year-old man, was initially sentenced to four years in prison for stabbing his wife to death outside the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on the Darwin esplanade in 2023. However, prosecutors appealed this sentence, calling it "manifestly inadequate", and the NT Court of Criminal Appeal agreed, doubling Naroldol's jail term to eight years. This means that instead of being eligible for parole in April, Naroldol will now be able to apply for early release in late 2027.
