An Indian court ordered the release of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, two leaders of India's Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), after they spent a week in Tihar jail following their arrest last week. The arrests came during a police crackdown on protests against alleged manipulation of voter lists, which led to the deletion of more than 130 million names from the electoral roll. Police had initially charged Das and Ranka with trespassing and violating public peace after they jumped barricades and held up an Indian flag at a restricted site in central Delhi. Their detention sparked outrage among supporters and leaders of the youth movement, which accuses Gyanesh Kumar, India’s chief election commissioner, of overseeing electoral roll revisions that benefit Prime Minister Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
