Luo Fuli, a 31-year-old AI researcher from Peking University, has been promoted to one of the highest positions at Xiaomi, a Beijing-based smartphone and electric vehicle company, just ten months after joining as head of its large language model unit in mid-2026. Luo gained significant attention in late 2024 when Xiaomi founder Lei Jun offered her an annual salary of 10 million yuan (US$1.5 million) during a live stream. Initially known only within the computer science community, Luo became famous in 2019 as a master’s degree candidate at PKU for authoring eight papers presented at the Association for Computational Linguistics’ annual meeting.
