Story summary

Ben Carroll, the Premier of Victoria, admitted to driving away from a petrol station without paying for fuel on Monday night in Airport West, near his home in Niddrie. The incident came to light after police contacted the Department of Parliamentary Services and informed them about the unpaid bill. On Wednesday morning, Carroll issued a statement saying he had forgotten to pay but resolved the issue by settling the bill straight away once he was notified. He expressed gratitude towards the staff at the service station for their understanding. This blunder occurred while Carroll, who took office in July, has been focusing on toughening the state government's approach to crime.

Why this leaning score

This article does not take a side on a contested political question, so it has no leaning score. That is an answer rather than a gap: a match report or a rescue can be warmly or critically written without being left or right, and scoring it anyway is how approval of a subject gets recorded as a political position.

No political leaning scored for article 95095 · logged 2026-10-21
