Ben Kindel, a 19-year-old forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins from Coquitlam, B.C., was hospitalized in Salt Lake City after experiencing an unspecified medical emergency during the team's flight home from a four-game trip. The plane returned to the airport shortly after takeoff on Tuesday so that Kindel could receive immediate care from the team’s medical staff. He was then transported by ambulance to the University of Utah hospital, where he was reported to be conscious, alert, and stable as of Tuesday. Kindel had recently played nearly 19 minutes in a Monday night game against the Mammoth before this incident. This marks his second season with the Penguins after being drafted 11th overall in the 2025 draft; he has accumulated two goals and two assists across nine games so far this season.
