On October 17, 2026, masked Israeli settlers attacked a group of European diplomats, including Belgian, French, and Polish officials, during the olive harvest in the occupied West Bank village of Taybeh. The attackers injured at least three people and damaged a Belgian vehicle. A day earlier, on October 16, a Washington Post photojournalist, Heidi Levine, was severely beaten while covering the olive harvest near Khirbet Abu Falah. By October 19, Israeli police arrested ten suspects in connection with these attacks, including those against diplomats and journalists. Since the start of the olive harvest earlier that month, at least four people have been killed and over 100 injured due to settler violence, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Activists claim that Israeli authorities fail to adequately prevent such incidents involving various weapons from slingshots to guns.
