On October 17, 2026, a black pickup truck plowed through youth soccer fields at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, around 3:25 p.m., killing two people, including a child and an adult, and injuring several others. The driver was taken into custody by police but later released without charges on October 18 after interviews with investigators and consultations with the district attorney's office. Police are still investigating the incident, conducting toxicology tests and examining the vehicle for mechanical issues. The victims were identified as Cole Adrian, a six-year-old boy from McPherson, Kansas, and Nicholas Schafer, a 35-year-old man also from McPherson; they died at the scene. The driver's identity has not been publicly released, but she is a 34-year-old woman with three children present at the complex during the incident, two of whom were in her truck while the third was playing on another field.
