An Air Force service member assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, died after falling approximately 170 feet during a pregame rappelling demonstration at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) football game against Navy in San Antonio on October 15. The incident occurred when the officer was descending from the Alamodome rafters and fell to the field, where medical personnel provided immediate care before he was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The start of the game was delayed for around 10 minutes due to the tragic event, which shocked spectators into silence.
