Father Patricio Alfredo Sanchez Molinari, a Catholic priest in Guayaquil, Ecuador, died after being struck by a falling crucifix during a live-streamed Sunday Mass at Nuestra Senora del Perpetuo Socorro Church. The accident occurred approximately 27 minutes into the livestream when the large wooden cross bearing the figure of Jesus Christ suddenly detached and fell onto Sanchez Molinari, who was standing directly below it at the altar. Parishioners screamed for help as he fell out of view beneath the altar; one woman repeatedly shouted "Padre!" in distress. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil confirmed his death shortly after the incident, noting that Sanchez Molinari had been ordained on the same date a year earlier.
