Milan police clashed with protesters for a second day on October 18, 2026, as unrest spread across several Italian cities including Milan, Bologna, Brescia, Bergamo, and Turin. Hooded demonstrators threw stones, looted shops, broke shop windows, and set bins on fire near central Piazza Duomo in Milan. Police responded with tear gas and water cannons, arresting 28 protesters and taking more than 60 to the police station for further checks. The protests were sparked by rising living costs and poor public services, mirroring recent violent demonstrations in neighboring France. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the violence and called for a government meeting on Monday to address the situation.
