On October 13, 2026, a family of four—Philip and Kim English and their sons Callum (12) and Jayden (9)—were killed in an arson attack on their home in the Birchwood area of Waterford City. Two other children, Nadia (14) and Elliot (6), survived but were left in critical condition.
The incident began with a fire at around 5 AM when petrol bombs were thrown into the house. The police launched a murder investigation and arrested a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s on October 15, who were charged on October 17. They will appear before Clonmel District Court.
The attack is suspected to be related to drug debts owed to a Traveller gang, with police identifying the attacker as a known associate of several gangs in the area.
Philip and Kim English's funerals are scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2026. Gardaí (Irish police) continue their investigation, expecting more arrests and have committed extensive resources to solving the case. Two additional charges are pending as the investigation progresses. The attack has left a significant impact on the community, with local priests expressing profound sadness over the loss of life.
