On October 17, 2026, during a Premier League match between Chelsea and Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, tempers flared early with several incidents of misconduct. Harrison Armstrong received the first booking after clattering into Josh Acheampong, who was also booked shortly afterward for dissent. Later in the half, Tarkowski shoved Moises Caicedo to the ground, leading to a brief melee involving players from both teams. Referee Paul Tierney quickly dispersed the altercation, and Tarkowski received another booking for his part in the incident. Everton's Rogers had his name taken during this melee and earlier for rushing to Tarkowski’s aid. Prior to the match, Rogers was already known as a hothead due to an argument with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice just before the international break.
