A fire broke out at TUPTUP Resto and Resort in Inani, Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh, around 6:30 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, killing 10 people and injuring nine others. The resort is near the Bay of Bengal and Patuartek Beach along Marine Drive, a popular destination for domestic tourists. Deputy Assistant Director Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain confirmed that the three-storey bamboo and wood structure was entirely destroyed by the fire.
Fire Service spokesman Talha Bin Zasim stated that the fatalities included five women and a 5-year-old boy, with most victims traveling from Dhaka to the resort town. The injured were admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where Sabuktagin Mahmud Sohel, resident medical officer, reported that five burn patients had injuries covering around 5% of their bodies.
Dolon Acharya, an officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence department, said firefighters took nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze after pulling out charred bodies. The resort reportedly lacked proper fire safety measures and did not receive government agency approval for its construction, raising concerns about building regulations in tourist areas.
