A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan's Balochistan province on Saturday (October 17, 2026), according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was located near Khuzdar town, approximately 48 km west-northwest of Khuzdar and at a depth of 13 km. The tremors were felt in several districts within Balochistan, including Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, and Nasirabad, as well as in neighbouring Sindh province's Sukkur, Qambar, Shahdadkot, and Dadu districts.
Pakistan frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location on three major tectonic plates: the Arabian, Eurasian, and Indian. This recent quake is part of a pattern; earlier this year, another 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Balochistan in February. Historically, Pakistan's deadliest earthquake occurred in 2005, resulting in over 74,000 fatalities.
