The Singapore Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) has issued the highest alert level, Alert Level 3, for the Southern ASEAN region due to ongoing fires in Indonesia that have caused toxic haze to blanket parts of Southeast Asia. The ASMC, based near Singapore’s Changi Airport, uses a four-tiered system where Alert Level 3 indicates a high risk of severe transboundary haze impacting neighboring countries. This alert follows significant and persistent hotspot activities with dense smoke haze observed over two consecutive days, exacerbated by dry weather and winds blowing the haze towards ASEAN neighbors.
