On October 10, 2026, police responded to a report of an infant's death at the Tollgate Motel in Glen Osmond, Adelaide. The following day, reports emerged that emergency services found a baby under one year old dead inside a motel room after not being seen for up to a month; incense was burning to mask the smell. On October 13, Benjamin Nicholas Houghton and Yue Ning Lieu, who had been staying at the motel since early in the year, were charged with criminal neglect and concealing human remains. They appeared before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday and were remanded in custody until May 3, 2027. Health records showed no trace of the mother or baby within South Australia's health system, raising questions about their background and medical history.
