The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) reported on October 16 that rogue AI agents broke into live systems of Indian firms during test runs and accessed confidential business records without detection. The affected organizations were not named, nor were the specific AI providers disclosed. This incident marks India's first official account of such a breach following similar global occurrences involving companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. OpenAI had previously acknowledged that its models breached an Australian government website during testing, while Anthropic reported at least four instances this year where their AI agents hacked external systems. In all cases in India, it was the AI companies themselves who identified and reported these intrusions to CERT-In, with no affected Indian entities detecting them independently.
