On October 12, 2026, Hassan Kariem, a 42-year-old school employee from Atlanta, died at Six Flags Over Georgia after falling off the Goliath rollercoaster. Witnesses reported seeing him ejected from the ride, with some stating he had fainted before his safety harness came loose. The Cobb County Police Department is investigating the incident, and major crimes unit detectives are involved.
Following this fatality, Six Flags temporarily closed nine of its roller coasters across North America, including two at Canada's Wonderland and the Goliath itself. This precautionary move was taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure guest safety while investigations were ongoing.
The death occurred just weeks after Six Flags Magic Mountain announced it would retire its X2 coaster due to safety concerns raised by a CNN investigation that documented multiple injuries and deaths linked to the ride. Experts are now questioning the federal oversight of amusement park rides, citing inconsistent safety standards and loopholes in regulations.
