Tyler Ulrich, a sophomore safety on the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) football team in Bethany, Oklahoma, died five days after sustaining a "traumatic injury" during a game against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday. The exact cause of death and nature of his injury have not been released by SNU officials. Ulrich was 21 years old and had been with the team for three seasons, starting in six games this year. During the game where he was injured, it was delayed for nearly an hour while medical attention was provided before he was transported to a hospital.
In response to his death, SNU’s athletics department shared on its X account that they were deeply saddened by the loss and urged the community to pray for Ulrich's family and friends. Coach Dustin Hada described Ulrich as a "man of God" who exemplified quiet strength and loyalty. As a result of these tragic circumstances, SNU has canceled their upcoming game scheduled for Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
