JK Rowling faced another protest on October 15, 2026, at the Palace Theatre in London during a red carpet event for Harry Potter And The Cursed Child. Trans rights activists, wearing masks and hats to remain anonymous, laid down on the carpet, criticizing Rowling's stance on gender identity. One protester wore a t-shirt that read “Rowling money kills.” Security quickly removed them from the scene.
Rowling has been in controversy since expressing her views on biological sex being immutable and criticising self-declared gender identity as "quasi-religious" and "anti-science." Despite this, she maintains she is not transphobic and respects every trans person's right to live authentically. Her public statements have led to a series of protests and boycotts by supporters of transgender rights at Harry Potter-related events.
Her outspoken views have divided fans of the franchise and sparked a recent wave of protests and boycotts by trans rights activists targeting Harry Potter-themed events and locations.
