A Florida woman who allowed two strangers to charge their phones in her car on October 12, 2026, in Cantonment, ended up having her vehicle stolen when the pair drove away after she stepped out. The suspects were later spotted by a deputy near Highway 29 and led police on a chase that resulted in a multi-vehicle crash but no serious injuries. Both individuals were arrested; according to Sheriff Chip Simmons of Escambia County, they face charges including grand theft, fleeing and eluding police with disregard for safety, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. The incident highlights the risks associated with letting strangers use one’s vehicle.
