On October 12, 2026, federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations raided the Washington D.C. home of Rep. Ilhan Omar early in the morning as part of an ongoing criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork filed by her late father when she was a child. The Justice Department confirmed that agents used a judicially authorized search warrant for this enforcement action but provided no further details.
The raid, which occurred weeks before Omar’s reelection campaign, marks a significant escalation in the probe initially revealed by Tom Homan in mid-September and later warned about by Markwayne Mullin, who leads Homeland Security. Following the raid, investigators also issued over a dozen subpoenas to Omar's family members and seized her cellphone.
Questions have resurfaced regarding Omar’s age at immigration; she was reportedly listed as 17 when acquiring citizenship in 2000, which would qualify her for automatic citizenship through her father’s naturalization. However, discrepancies emerged after her congressional staff requested changes to historical records held by a Minnesota public library, altering her birth year from 1981 to 1982.
Omar has long been under scrutiny and criticism from President Trump, who previously suggested looking into possible legal remedies for alleged immigration fraud.
