David Kulitapa, a 19-year-old Sydney man, was charged by NSW Police on October 12 for allegedly attempting to assassinate a relative of the Alameddine crime family as he picked up his 15-year-old daughter from school in Fairfield on June 9. The victim and his daughter fled their vehicle when Kulitapa approached with a handgun; however, the gun reportedly jammed, preventing any shots from being fired. Both survived unharmed.
CCTV footage captured the father and daughter running away as Kulitapa left the scene. Police believe the targets were chosen solely due to their relation to organized crime figures, despite having no criminal history themselves. Taskforce Falcon, a NSW Police initiative launched in May 2025 to tackle gang violence, took over the investigation.
Kulitapa was arrested while driving in Sans Souci and his home in Cronulla was raided by police. He faces charges including attempting to shoot with intent to murder, installing tracking devices, possessing banned weapons, dealing prohibited drugs, directing criminal activities, and supplying large quantities of illegal substances.
