A Saudi engineer named Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, was arrested by the FBI and charged with secretly installing a recording device inside an OpenAI conference room in San Francisco. The device, wrapped in toilet paper and hidden behind a TV's USB port, was discovered on September 30th and contained encrypted data from just two days prior. Alfozan had reportedly used internal company systems to gather information about meeting schedules and locations, suggesting premeditation. OpenAI stated it had no evidence that any sensitive information was accessed or exfiltrated. The arrest highlights the risk of espionage targeting cutting-edge technology firms like OpenAI, which develop advanced AI technologies crucial for national security and innovation.
