The White House is investigating allegations by Alina Habba, former personal attorney to President Trump and top federal prosecutor in New Jersey, that $5.6 million donated by her Turkish billionaire husband Turhan Mildon for the Kennedy Center went missing under the leadership of Ric Grenell, who led the center until March. The president referred these claims to White House Counsel Will Scharf after Habba raised them during a meeting on Friday in the Oval Office. Axios first reported the story, and two sources close to the administration confirmed its details without commenting on their truthfulness. According to an administration official, Grenell allegedly persuaded Mildon to wire transfer $17.6 million as part of a business deal in early 2025, though it is unclear how much, if any, was intended for the Kennedy Center.
The president, who has sought to renovate the performing arts venue and rebrand it to include his name, referred the allegations to White House Counsel Will Scharf for further investigation.
