A 21-year-old woman has alleged that she was sexually assaulted at an Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity house near the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park on October 8 around 2:00 AM. The suspect fled after a bystander intervened; he is described as a South Asian male, about 5'7, with dark skin and black curly hair shaved at the sides, wearing a black shirt, joggers, and white shoes.
Surveillance footage reviewed by the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) showed an individual matching this description running from the frat party. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is investigating alongside UCPD. Neither the accuser nor the alleged perpetrator attends the University of Chicago, but they are now banned from campus and no charges have been filed.
According to a witness report shared by the New York Times, after the victim rejected further advances and went to the bathroom, she was allegedly attacked while a group outside cheered and chanted provocative remarks. The fraternity chapter has suspended all events until further notice as part of their cooperation with law enforcement.
