On October 14, 2026, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he does not favor a preemptive strike against Iran before the upcoming election on October 27. Speaking to Israel’s Army Radio, Netanyahu clarified that while such an action would be inconvenient and undesirable, Israel would respond forcefully if attacked by Iran or its proxies like Hezbollah. He also warned Hezbollah against attacking Israel, asserting they would suffer severe consequences. Since February 28, when the U.S., Israel, and Iran entered a state of war following mutual strikes, there has been no direct conflict between Israel and Iran since June. Netanyahu declined to comment on whether Israel is supporting Saudi Arabia in its conflicts with Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are aligned with Iran.
