The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) planned protests in New Delhi on October 10 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over revisions that removed 130 million voter names from the electoral rolls. Authorities detained thousands of protesters, including CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other leaders like Deepak Baliyan, before they could reach Jantar Mantar, the designated protest site in central Delhi. The city was put under lockdown with internet services suspended, metro stations closed, and police deployed to intercept demonstrators across routes into the capital. Over 35 journalists were also detained while covering these events, raising concerns about press freedom in India.
