The Aporia is an independent editorial project that collects news articles from 52 news sources (and growing). It analytically compares content from various publishers to draw connections and break down information to make the first look at a new topic clear.
Our goal is to help give you a straightforward first perspective on a new topic by giving you the information to do so rather than thinking for you. Our methodology is public and our mistakes are documented openly.

Russell Brand appeared in Southwark Crown Court on October 14, 2026, for the start of his rape and sexual assault trial. He faces seven charges related to incidents involving six women between 1999 and 2009. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault.
The prosecutor, Riel Karmy-Jones KC, described Brand as a "ruthless, calculated, and manipulative" predator who used his charm and humor to pursue women sexually. She alleged that Brand treated women as a "means to an end," exploiting them regardless of their protests or reactions. The trial continues with opening statements from the prosecution. Brand's wife, Laura Gallacher, was present at the court proceedings throughout the day.
