In Richmond, Kentucky, seven children ranging from a one-year-old to age 17 were removed from a home described by authorities as "filthy and deplorable" after an investigation into child abuse. The home was found with feces smeared on floors and stairs, and the smell of urine and feces was pervasive. At least eight adults and ten dogs and cats also lived in the house. Authorities arrested eight suspects including Christine Carter, Johnna Carter, Richard Carter, Sarah Carter, Matthew Brumbaugh, Mark Brumbaugh, Green Schindler, and Ishmeal Thornsberry on charges such as first-degree criminal abuse, rape, incest, human trafficking, and distribution of obscene matter. All suspects are being held at the Madison County Detention Center while the investigation continues.
