In response to recent school stabbings in Poland, retailers are removing Halloween-themed knives from their shelves. On October 7, a 19-year-old stabbed 10 people at a school in Ostroleka; the following day, a 15-year-old killed a caretaker and injured two staff members at another school northeast of Warsaw. A third incident occurred on Saturday in Warsaw when three people were injured. Over 20,000 police officers have been deployed to schools since late last week. Authorities arrested 135 suspects after inspecting over 80,000 schools, with officials attributing the attacks to social media and violent video games. Poland’s Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski stated that there will be "no tolerance for any attacks on Polish children."
Politicians have blamed the sudden spate of attacks on social media – including pro Nazi ideology – and violent video games.
