The Aporia
Nico Iamaleava, the starting quarterback for UCLA, left Saturday's game against No. 13 Oregon with a leg injury late in the first half at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. A UCLA spokesperson said he was doubtful to return after halftime due to the injury. Iamaleava completed 10 of 17 passes for 162 yards and threw two interceptions before exiting; he also lost a fumble near Oregon’s end zone that led to their only touchdown in the first half. The backup quarterback, Ty Dieffenbach, who transferred from Cal Poly this season, replaced Iamaleava at halftime. Before joining UCLA, Dieffenbach played one year at Cal Poly where he started for the first time and had a record of 9-for-162 passes with 1,305 yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions. This injury leaves a significant challenge for UCLA to maintain their competitive edge against Oregon without Iamaleava's leadership on the field.
