The Aporia
Mick Mundine, the 79-year-old chief executive of the Aboriginal Housing Company and a prominent Indigenous leader in Sydney, was arrested on Thursday for alleged historical child sexual assault that occurred in Redfern in June 1986. Police from the Sex Crimes Squad took him into custody around 7 am and brought him to Newtown Police Station, where he is being questioned regarding the assault of a then 15-year-old girl. The investigation, codenamed Strike Force Millersburg, began in December 2025 and has been ongoing since then. Mundine is related to legendary boxer Tony Mundine OAM (deceased) and his son Anthony Mundine, who was a professional rugby player and boxer. This arrest has significant implications for the Indigenous community and raises questions about trust in leadership figures within it.
